- Is this your first visit to Barcelona?
- No, I was here last year actually. We have several clients here.
- Really? Who do you work for?
- Safeway Systems, I’m the marketing manager.
- I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name?
- Jeff. Jeff Thompson.
- Nice to meet you Jeff. Where are you staying?
- I’m at the Ambassador.
- That’s just round the corner, isn’t it?
- Yes, it’s not far from here, but the room’s a bit small and there was no internet connection yesterday morning.
- That’s bad. Did they fix it?
- Yes, it’s alright now, thank God. Where are you staying?

- I thought the morning session was terribly boring. The first speaker had his head down and was speaking to his notes all the time. I couldn’t hear a thing. And the second one spoke English very badly. Did you understand him?
- No, not really. I hope this afternoon will be a bit better. Are you staying here at the hotel?
- No, I’m at the Sheraton. It’s on the other side of the city.
- That’s a bit inconvenient. How do you get here.
- By taxi. The company pays.
- And so they should do. You work for IBM, don’t you?
- Yes, I’ve been with them for four years now. Actually, I’m thinking of moving.
- Really? We’re always looking for good graphic designers. What are you doing for lunch Anna? Maybe we could talk about that.

- It’s nice to meet you. I’m Greg Stevens from Minolta. Are you giving a talk today?
- No, I’m just here to take notes. But I see that your name is on the list. Here you are, ‘Greg Stevens, software consultant. Speaking on software applications in photography.
- Yes, I’m speaking after lunch. If I can get back from my hotel on time.
- Where are you staying?
- At the Hilton.
- But that’s miles away. Look, why don’t you have lunch with us. We’ve found a great little bistro around the corner, and then you won’t have to rush back to be here at 2 o’clock for your presentation.
- That’s very kind of you, I’d love to.

- Who’s that woman over there next to the bar?
- In the blue skirt?
- Yes.
- That’s Christina Davies. She’s a lawyer with Barclays Bank.
- She’s a bit young to be a lawyer, isn’t she?
- She’s older than she looks. She moved to the London office from Oxford.
- Do you think you could introduce us? We’re staying at the same hotel, the Hyatt.
- I’d rather not if you don’t mind. We had a bit of an argument a few months ago and we haven’t spoken since.
- Oh never mind. I’m sure I’ll see her later at the hotel.
